o DC-Based Carlyle Group Files For IPO

Washington, DC — In a move anticipated for several years, The Carlyle Group, the DC-based private equity giant that manages $153 billion in assets, on Monday filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for an initial public offering (IPO). Specific details of the offering, such as the number of shares to be offered or their expected price range, have yet to be disclosed. In the filing, the company said it plans to raise up to $100 million, but that figure is considered a placeholder amount and is likely to increase. Underwriters will include J.P. Morgan, Citigroup and Credit Suisse. Founded in 1987, Carlyle currently has more than 1,100 employees, including over 500 investment professionals, in 34 offices across six continents. The firm’s top rivals, including Blackstone Group, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co and Apollo Global Management already are traded publicly.

o Chantilly-Based Iron Bow Technologies Acquired in Management Buyout

Chantilly, Va. — Iron Bow Technologies, a Chantilly-based provider of information and communications technology to the federal government, said on Monday that several of its top executives, led by CEO Rene LaVigne, have acquired a controlling interest in the company from majority owner New Mountain Capital. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. New Mountain, a New York-based private equity firm, and other selling shareholders will retain a minority interest in the company, which has annual revenue of approximately $800 million and more than 300 employees. Iron Bow, which specializes in IT security, data center, collaboration, network infrastructure and client computing, said it will not experience any organizational changes as a result of the deal.

o Bethesda’s Cambridge Information Group Increases Stake in InfoSpace

Bethesda, Md. — Cambridge Information Group (CIG), a Bethesda- and New York-based investment firm focused on the information services and education industries, said it has invested an additional $16.2 million in InfoSpace, a Bellevue, Wash.-based developer of Internet search technology. According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the firm acquired 1.76 million shares of the company for $9.16 each, as well as warrants for another 1 million shares. It now owns a 7.2% stake in the company, whose metasearch technology combines the top results from several of the largest online search engines. InfoSpace has named Cambridge CEO Andrew Snyder to its board of directors.
